Game Of Thrones: Who will die in the season eight premiere

GAME Of Thrones season eight only has six episodes, which means it has to start killing off characters quick. Here’s our predictions for who will die in the opener.

TV Trailer: Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 7

WITH just six episodes planned for season eight of Game Of Thrones, there is no time to waste — characters have to start dying quickly.

The good news is, the main characters probably won’t go to join the Night King’s army in the first episode. But there’s quite a few minor characters that you should be very, very worried about.

Let’s run the rule over some of them. You could call this a series of spoiler alerts — or just a series of (un) educated guesses!

Dolorous Edd

Remember him? Jon’s mate who’s now the commander of the Night’s Watch. Somebody has to slow down the march of the dead on Winterfell.

Dolorous Edd is supposed to defend The Wall. I don’t like his chances.

That’s going to fall to Edd and he’s going to fall. Will it by zombie giant, zombie bear or zombie dragon? Probably not the dragon as even blue flame is going to melt people pretty badly and the Night King wants fresh recruits for his army, not piles of ash.

Yohn Royce

The Dothraki and Unsullied are still two weeks away, even given the unrealistic travel powers that the series now possesses. Again, someone has to slow down the advance of the dead to give Daenerys and her army time to get to Winterfell. Hello, the Knights of the Vale. Or, rather, goodbye to the Knights of the Vale.

Ser Davos

Yes, he’s with Jon right now. But there is little need for cunning advisers and considered comment now. Plus he’s a brave man who’s willing to do what is right, no matter the cost. Another one who could easily die in some desperate holding battle.

Ser Davos is great but he’s also doomed.

Tormund Giantsbane

Fans are divided as to whether he died at the end of season seven. I say he survived — to me, it looked like he and Beric had run far enough down the wall that they lived. The question is, what does he do next? Does he run to warn Edd, thus dooming Edd? Does he make for Winterfell, thus preserving himself, or does he go for the army of the dead with his axe?

We all want to see Tormund survive to make “monster babies” with Brienne. But will he?

I can’t believe the writers would go to all the effort of keeping him alive in season seven, when he should have died, just to kill him off meaninglessly. They have something planned for him, so he just might live through the whole thing. Or die in the first episode. One or the other.

Beric Dondarrion

We had plenty of exposition to show that his being brought back from the dead endlessly by Thoros was for a purpose. Being killed pointlessly either in The Wall’s fall or in the first episode doesn’t seem like it.

If Tormund lives, then so does Beric. And he could yet play a vital role before dying.

Regular readers will know of our theory that the TV series will mirror the books when it comes to Beric. He gave up his resurrected life to bring Catelyn Stark back in the books. She’s gone in the TV series but he could do the same to bring back either Jon or Dany. That seems to be the way the show is setting it up. Or he dies with Tormund in episode one.

Jorah Mormont

He survived greyscale for something. And not just to be jealous of Jon for shagging Daenerys. I see a redeeming death for him, either to save Jon and Dany, giving him just time to confess his love for her and order Jon to treat her well — or Lyanna Mormont.

Ser Jorah might be in love with Daenerys but he’s not related to her, so doesn’t stand a chance.

He betrayed his family, so to die to save Lyanna would be a fitting end for him. I don’t like her chances much, as she’s too good and nice. But for him to die to save her is an acceptable trade.

Euron Greyjoy

Obviously he is going to die. It is just a question of when. He could be a casualty of the need to make season eight just six episodes long. There is still plenty to get through and the Greyjoy business is, frankly, a distraction when you’ve got Cersei and the Night King to deal with. Why not get that bit out of the way early? It would also start the season off with a blast.

He brought leather pants back into fashion in Westeros. For that he has to die.

Theon Greyjoy

See above. He’s a dead man walking, off on a mission of redemption that surely has to end in his death. If they hit the button for the Greyjoy plot to be dealt with in episode one, Theon to kill Euron and then to die of his wounds, giving him just enough time for a final, teary speech to Yara.

Redemption is a killer plot device. Literally, in the case of Theon.

Bronn of the Blackwater

He kept living when he wasn’t supposed to in season seven, so it seems a little strange to kill him off at the start of season eight.

What’s Bronn going to do without Jaime? Well, quite possibly die at Cersei’s hands.

But his mate Jaime has nicked off and he’s been left behind with Cersei. So will he join her, run off to help the Lannister brothers — or will The Mountain get him first? He should live but he’s a dark horse for death.
