Bonus episode for free in season seven — and more secret spoilers
Game Of Thrones fans were disappointed to learn the penultimate season seven will only feature seven episodes instead of the usual 10. But each episode will be so long, it will be like watching a bonus eighth episode for free.
IF YOU were feeling a bit short-changed, thinking that Game Of Thrones season seven will be three episodes short of the usual 10, then despair no longer — because you’re getting a bonus episode for free.
HBO has just released the run times for each of the seven episodes, which will begin on July 16 in America (July 17 here).
The usual episode length for the previous six seasons has been 52 minutes, although the finale usually runs closer to the hour.
For this season we will get:
Episode 1: 59 minutes
Episode 2: 59 minutes
Episode 3: 63 minutes
Episode 4: 50 minutes
Episode 5: 59 minutes
Episode 6: 71 minutes
Episode 7: 81 minutes
The obvious thing is the finale, weighing in at a whopping 81 minutes, which puts it close to movie length. Add in the 71 minutes for episode six and you’ve got basically a Lord Of The Rings movie-length finish.
The other anomaly is episode four, which weighs in at a very lightweight 50 minutes.
But, even allowing for this, add in all the extra minutes and this season will be the equivalent of eight normal episodes, an extra bonus episode for free.
In other GoT news, a bonus clip has revealed a couple of interesting hints about season seven.
Inside Game Of Thrones: A Story Of Cloth, features costume designer Michele Clapton talking about her work on the show.
There are a few backstage clips that offer a tantalising glimpse into things that will happen in season seven.
The two that have fans most excited are a shot of The Hound (Rory McCann) flicking snow. We last saw him with the Brotherhood Without Banners. This seems to indicate he’s off to Winterfell and a hoped-for reunion with Arya Stark.
Talking of Arya Stark, there is also a shot of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) striding through the crypts at Winterfell. behind her is a set assistant who seems to be holding Needle — Arya’s sword.
So that could be two reunions for the price of one!
