A 23-year-old man is facing several charges after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash that killed his friend and professional motocross rider Cohn Evans in November 2022.
Joshua Jordan John Boyton has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, driving an uninsured vehicle on a road, drive defective vehicle, drive non-compliant modified vehicle, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance.
Police say three men were in a vehicle travelling along Dungaree Drive towards Pub Lane at New Beith when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree about 6.30pm.
Police will allege Boyton had made “engine modifications” and that he did not make a “reasonable endeavour” to contact emergency services following the crash, according to court documents.
Cohn, from Jimboomba, who was the rear passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boyton and the front rear passenger, a 21-year-old man from Springfield Lakes, both sustained minor injuries.
Boyton has previously been granted bail.
His matter has been adjourned to October 18 at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
