Police have released haunting footage of a man who was charged with attempted murder, surrendering himself to officers after a four day long manhunt.
Gold Coast police were called to an alleged shooting at a property in Tallebudgera on Thursday.
Police will allege Jason Ian Beath, 57, shot a 59-year-old man in the head and shoulder with a homemade pipe gun before fleeing the scene.
After a wide-scale search spanning across four days, police found the alleged offender inside a shed on the victim’s property.
Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley said the 57-year-old man had been residing in the shed since Thursday.
Bodycam footage of the arrest showed officers entering the shed when the ‘bushman’ surrendered with his hands up while sitting on a bed.
He was found with a number of injuries, which Mr Tuffley said were believed to be from the incident on Thursday, and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
He was charged with one count each of attempt to murder, unlawful possession of weapons category H (shotguns), authority required to possess explosive (ammunition) and unlawful enter in yard.
Beath’s matter was mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
His defence lawyer, Bettina Webb from Howden Saggers Lawyers, told the court her client was currently in the watch-house but did not need to appear in court.
She said that there would be no application for bail that day and sought for the matter to appear at a later date.
Beath’s case was adjourned to appear again in court later in February.
Police will allege the 59-year-old had approached Beath, who was on his property, before he was allegedly shot at close range.
The shot man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) as heavily armed officers, assisted by the police helicopter, worked to find the suspect.
The public were urged to avoid an exclusion zone encompassing Tallebudgera Creek Road to the west, Emily Lane to the north, and Petsche Creek Road to the east and Ryans Road to the south.
The exclusion zone was called off just after 10pm on Thursday night.
