A 22-year-old man killed in a crash south of Brisbane on Wednesday night has been identified as a well-known professional motocross rider.
Cohn Evans tragically lost his life and two other men he was travelling with were injured in the crash at New Beith in Logan.
Police say the three men were in a vehicle travelling along Dungaree Drive towards Pub Lane about 6.30pm when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree.
Cohn, from Jimboomba, who was the rear passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from Greenbank, and the front passenger, a 21-year-old man from Springfield Lakes, both sustained minor injuries.
Police are investigating the crash.
Cohn’s close friend Beau Byatt described him as “the life of the party”.
“Cohn was a great guy and an even better mate,” he said.
“Cohn would do anything for his mates - he (had) a beautiful heart.”
Others paid tribute to the motocross star and close friend with the hashtag #FOREVERC51.
Family friend and former work colleague Mal Dalton said Cohn had the “eternity of a 12-year-old kid”.
“Sometimes in life you meet people that just aren’t destined to become old men – he just had that Peter Pan kind of personality,” he said.
“(Cohn) was what every man wanted to be - a constant kid.”
Mr Dalton said he nicknamed Cohn “sauce boy” because he would only ever order a chicken schnitzel at the pub and “smother it with sauce”.
“He was just such a bright spirit to work with all the time – always smiling, always laughing,” he said.
Mr Dalton said Cohn “lived for thrills”.
“He was such an integral part of the community of motocross,” he said.
“(His death) has left a black hole in my life and the community.”
Motorcycling Queensland have released a statement saying “our immediate thoughts are for his family and friends who share his love of the sport”.
