Sunshine Coast woman Feebie McIntosh posted on social media about her excitement at getting engaged to her boyfriend just days before she was fatally shot in the head.
Narangba man Bradley Ian Cotten, 30, has been charged with her murder after she was dumped at Sunshine Coast hospital with a gunshot wound to the head on Friday morning.
Police believe the tragedy unfolded just after 9am when a “disturbance” occurred at a home on Coolum St, Dicky Beach.
Ms McIntosh was dropped at the Caloundra Hospital about 9.30am with the critical wound.
The 25-year-old did not survive her injuries, sparking a major police investigation that resulted in a dramatic suburban arrest.
Just days before her death, Mitch White, who is in Borallon Correctional Centre, appeared to have proposed to Ms McIntosh via a letter he sent from behind bars.
“You’re the most sweetest man ever and the best part is, you’re all mine!” Ms McIntosh wrote in the May 6 post. “I miss you so much!”
The letter was accompanied by a hand-drawn “find-a-word” that spelled out “Feebie will you marry me”.
“You’re the love of my life and I can’t wait to get out and start our own little family,” Mr White wrote.
“I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long, here’s this find-a-word, I hope this makes it up to you.
“Take your time, use a highlighter and have fun!
“When you find the hidden message at the end, take it as a promise. I love you more than anything in this world.”
Meanwhile, friends and family of Ms McIntosh have expressed their grief following the 25-year-old’s tragic death.
Ms McIntosh’s best friend Hannah Ogilvie has paid an emotional tribute, as seen on Nine News, to a woman she said “had a heart of gold”.
“Her poor parents man, her parents are the kindest people too,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“Their daughter has just gone and it’s just not fair.”
Ms Ogilvie said Ms McIntosh was happy, funny, good to be around and bubbly.
“I get home from work one day and I find out that something’s happened on the news and I don’t know who it is but then I get a couple of messages telling me it’s her and I just replied saying no it can’t be,” she said.
A crime scene was still in place at Coolum St, Dicky Beach, on Saturday evening.
Earlier, Sippy Downs residents recalled the moment their normally quiet suburban street turned into ‘the Gold Coast’ as dozens of police swarmed on an alleged murder suspect.
Cotten man was arrested about 4.30pm on Friday, handcuffed and placed in a forensic suit, the witnesses said.
It is not yet known whether the accused is in any way linked to Fitzwilliam Dr, where he was arrested on a nature strip.
A resident speculated whether the accused had come down the street in a desperate bid for freedom.
The arrested man was described as being of ‘stocky’ build with blonde hair.
The resident said the street had been swarming with police, from detectives, bike squads, forensics and general duties officers.
“It felt a bit like the Gold Coast, or Sydney,” one resident said.
“The police came roaring around the corner, we didn’t know what was going on. Then the guy was in handcuffs and being led away.
“He didn’t look too happy.”
Another resident said he saw officers in marked police vehicles preparing a tyre deflation device prior to the arrest.
A bouquet of flowers and a card had been placed nearly at the foot of Ms McIntosh’s Currimundi home.
Her family declined to comment when approached.
Neighbours had seen detectives in and out of the property and said they were a nice family.
It is believed the man who was charged was known to Ms McIntosh, but that the incident was not domestic violence related.
“Both were visiting the Coolum Street address and friends of the homeowner, a woman, who has now spoken to investigators,” police said in a statement.
Sunshine Coast District Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen described the incident as “tragic”.
“She received injuries to the head area,” Insp Drinnen said.
“We have a number of people we are trying to identify and interview.”
Cotten was denied police bail and did not appear in person or via video when the matter was mentioned at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Defence lawyer Alan Phillips of Phillips Crawford Lawyers and police prosecutor Sergeant Brendan Newman agreed to adjourn the matter until July 29, 2022, for committal.
