A dramatic broad daylight arrest has unfolded in a suburban Sunshine Coast street as police swooped on a man as part of their investigations into the shooting death of a woman in Dicky Beach.
As new details are revealed about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, police sources confirmed a man was arrested after the dramatic take down on Fitzwilliam Dr, Sippy Downs, about 4.20pm Friday.
Witnesses reported seeing up to 10 marked and unmarked police cars in attendance.
Police said the man, a 30-year-old from Narangba, was arrested in connection with the death of a 25-year-old Currimundi woman who was taken to the Caloundra Hospital about 9.30am on Friday with a gunshot wound to the head.
She tragically died in hospital as a result of her injuries sparking a major homicide investigation.
It’s understood several people are assisting police with their inquiries.
Police believe the tragedy unfolded just after 9am on Friday when a “disturbance” occurred at a Coolum St, Dicky Beach, home.
The woman was shot during the confrontation and then taken to hospital by a 58-year-old man known to her.
The 58-year-old man is voluntarily assisting police with inquiries.
It is believed the man who was taken into police custody was known to the deceased woman but that the incident was not domestic violence related.
“Both were visiting the Coolum Street address and friends of the homeowner, a woman, who has now spoken to investigators,” police said in a statement.
Sunshine Coast District Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen described the incident as “tragic” and said a crime scene has been established at a home on Coolum St, Dicky Beach.
“She received injuries to the head area,” Insp Drinnen said.
“We have a number of people we are trying to identify and interview.
“We also have homicide deployed to assist us in the investigation.
Neighbours this afternoon recalled the moments immediately after the incident.
One neighbour said their family could hear screams of “get an ambulance” from the Coolum St home, which has since been cordoned off.
The woman is understood to have lived locally for the last few years.
