A Sunshine Coast man has been caught red-handed by police after an undercover drug bust in a Logan suburb found more than $30,000-worth of cocaine.

Pelican Waters resident, Bryce Stewart Cathcart pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court yesterday, Thursday, May 26, 2022, to three counts of supplying schedule one dangerous drugs.

The court heard the 28-year-old New Zealander was the driver of a vehicle used in a drug trade in Springwood in December last year where 103g of cocaine were allegedly transported, accumulating to an estimated value of almost $30,000.

“Essentially the police were conducting an operation to detect persons involved in a drug trade from April onwards 2020,” Police prosecutor said.

“In pursuit of that investigation one of the police officers brought you to their attention.”

Mr Cathcart, along with another man, were intercepted by police in the basement of a hotel car park, where he explained to police that he was only involved in the trade as a ‘favour,’ the court heard.

“Your description of the event is that you were doing a favour to clear an existing drug debt,” the police prosecutor said.

The court heard Mr Cathcart’s submission that he had no knowledge of the amount of drugs being traded.

“You are not the organiser to the enterprise and you did not know the quantity of the supply,” Judge Kent said.

“You didn’t know its nature.”

Mr Cathcart was caught supplying dangerous drugs on two other instances on the Gold Coast and at Pelican Waters at the Sunshine Coast over a series of weeks in 2020.

Judge Kent said the community would not tolerate drug trade.

“It’s a pernicious, unlawful and frightening trade” he said.

Mr Cathcart was convicted and received a head sentence of two years jail, suspended for three years.
