StreetSmarts AFLQ School’s Cup: SEQ quarterfinals live stream

After a bumper 12-game quarter-final schedule, the final four match-ups in the AFLQ Schools Cup have been decided. RELIVE all the action from our LIVESTREAM.

StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup finals fever is upon us and www.couriermail.com.au, the Gold Coast Bulletin and News Corp affiliates will again by live streaming the action - starting today.

A bumper 12 game, quarterfinal schedule will be streamed by News Corp as 17 different schools slug it out across junior girls, junior boys, senior girls and senior boys competitions.

The quarter-finals action will be spread across two fields with KommunityTV broadcasting live action across both fields all day long.

THE MATCHES

Pacific Pines SHS had a 51-8 win over Lourdes Hill College, cementing a place in the junior girls semi-finals for the second successive season.

Now unbeaten, Pacific Pines’ push to the finals has been aided by the expertise of three state players - Mikayla Nurse, Rhianna Ingram and Jayda Crawford.

It is the second successive season that the Pacific Pines junior girls side has progressed into the semi-finals after confronting Varsity College last year.

The squad were also unbeaten entering the 2021 semi-final clash and will look to go one better to qualify for grand final day.

Lourdes Hill players gave a terrific account of themselves during the qualifying rounds and again today, with captain Frea Condon showing leadership.

One of the competitions’ most underrated player has been Lourdes Hills’ Bridget Ricketts. while the side also featured a natural talent in Leila Tonna.

In the Hillcrest Christian College v St Teresa’s College clash, Hillcrest ran out 9-7-61 to 1-1-7 winners.

Sunny Lappin and Ava Usher, both All Australian selections, kicked two goals each in the junior girls clash. Taya Reeves, Trinty Ransone and Angie Ugino also kicked singles.

Varsity College junior females also stretched their unbeaten run into win today, and will progress to the semi-finals after beating Mountain Creek SHS 6-6-36 to 1-4-10.

Varsity, who made last year’s grand final only to be beaten by PBC SHS, were aided ina hard fought match by goals to Ayla Peters, Jorja Reeves, Bella Blair, Ryne Spence, Phoebe Champion and Eva Mayes.

One of their players, Claire Abbott, is also bound for the national carnival next week with the Queensland 12-13 years side.

The Kedron SHS senior girls rolled on toward familiar territory with a 56-14 win over gutsy Pacific Pines SHS.

With captain, Lions under 18 Academy player Lilu Hung, and goal sneak Jess Cooper (four) in fine form, Kedron booked a place in the semi-finals for the third successive season.

The likes of Charlotte O’Byrne and Chayse Strano also kicked majors.

Pacific Pines were well represented by roving centre Shyla Bauer, fullback Skye Howells and wing Daisy Cassidy.

The Varsity College senior girls were also semi-final bound after a big win over Park Ridge SHS.

Varsity’s players have been here before, either as members of last year’s beaten grand finalists, or as members of the powerhouse junior female program.

Captain Molly Foat has been leading the way in a side which has seen Skye White benefit from playing club footie in the ruck. White has been one of the team’s big improvers in 2022.

The side also benefited from having three Queensland under 18 players, Nyalli Milne, Havana Harris and Annabel Foat. Foat and Harris, a Year 10 student, were also All Australian selections.

Park Ridge SHS tried hard, with All Australian player Dekota Baron trying to show her team the ball.

Iona College junior males also progressed in an exciting, high scoring clash against St John’s Anglican.

Callum Joiner and Diesel Hauss were among the multiple goal kickers as Iona’s progress in the cide continued at pace.

Semi-finalists in 2019, Iona will be looking to go one better and make the grand final under the leadership of captain Ben Lillico, a level 2 Lions Academy player, and Archie Watts, a level 1 Lions Academy player.

That pair, along with fullback Conor Quinn and half back Isaac Terpstra, were in fine form - and they had to be against a spirited St John’s who gave a good account of themselves.

Cavendish Road SHS claimed into the semi-finals with an exciting 41-27 win over Lindisfarne Anglican, with captain and ruck Amelia Brown leading by example.

The polish to the victory was added by midfielder Jessica Williams, centre half back Ava Guilford and centre half forward Ava Ambler.

For Lindisfarne Anglican Allira Palmucci was outstanding, while Riley Cranston was the major goal scorer.

Nudgee College continued to barrel into the finals, with a big win over Pacific Pines SHS.

Owen Collins, Fergus McFayden and Grady Turner all rose to the occasion as Nudgee’s historic march through the competition gathered momentum.

St Laurence’s College beat Cleveland District SHS 5-11 to 6--9 in extra time in the match of the day in the junior males,

Cleveland District SHS had inched ahead in the fourth quarter to seemingly hit the winners post, only for Laurie’s to kick the last two goals to tie 5-7-37 to to 5-7-37.

The game was then plunged into extra time, with both teams going for broke.

Laurie’ kicked the first goal, and then Cleveland a succession of behinds to creep up as time ticked by.

Earlier, what seemed to be the winner came late in the fourth quarter when, finally Cleveland were able to convert field position into a major score.

But Laurie’s rallied to win.

The other junior males clash was between Padua College and Pacific Pines SHS, Padua prevailed.
