The first trophy of the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition was decided on Sunday, with a pair of rising stars prominent in the result.
The Gold Coast Dolphins made it two white-ball premierships in as many seasons, defeating Northern Suburbs on Sunday to clinch the Kookaburra One Day competition title, adding it to the T20 competition they won last summer.
Batsman Hugo Burdon, who turns 20 next month, produced a commanding 105 to thrill his home crowd at Bill Pippen Oval, before 21-year-old all-rounder Josh Kann clinched the result with 5-20.
Kann was snapped up by the Hobart Hurricanes during the off-season after catching their eye with his performances during the winter in the Northern Territory where the former Australian Under-19 player excelled in the Top End Series in Darwin.
With wet weather around leading into the weekend matches, bowlers occupied the spotlight with a string of impressive hauls around the grades.
Warwick Year 10 student Laura Scheiwe proved a handful for her opponents, as her left-arm wrist spin netted her exceptional figures of 8-15 for University of Queensland against South Brisbane in the Jodie Fields Shield Second Grade competition.

Sandgate-Redcliffe medium-pacer Chathura Kaluthanthri had a major impact for the Gators in the Sci-Fleet Motors First Grade competition, snapping up 5-15 against Valley.
In fifth grade, Jonte Brown was also among the wickets for University of Queensland, taking 5-15 against Wynnum-Manly in a low-scoring encounter.
Batters did have their moments though, with Queensland Bulls rookie player Jack Clayton topscoring with 123 for University against Sunshine Coast, and the experienced Shelly Savage hitting 103 for Gold Coast in the Jodie Fields Shield.
University of Queensland also had two century-makers in their Sixth Grade game against Sandgate-Redcliffe, with Marinda Welgampola (127) and Thomas Anderson (118no) helping the Students to 6-313 dec.
Former Valley first grade all-rounder Haydn Murray caught the eye for Norths, leading their third-grade team with 117 not out.
