Centuries by two of Queensland’s finest, and hundreds to a first grade rookie and a Queensland Fire trailblazer ensured our KFC Queensland Premier Cricket Team of the Week was stock full of run-getters.
On a weekend which saw Gold Coast, Norths (both undefeated), Ipswich and UQ rise to top four status, the old firm of ex-Test batsman Joe Burns (Norths, 134 not out) and Usman Khawaja (Valley, 117 not out) were among the runs.
But so were WBBL Heat and Queensland Fire batter Mikayla Hinkley (Valley, 118 not out and 53 not out) and Norths rookie Abby Grewell (even 100).
And Queensland Bulls opener Bryce Street also pressed the go button for Sandgate-Redcliffe with 140 not out (143 balls) that included five sixes and 11 fours against South Brisbane.
Khawaja displayed deft touch with his run-a-ball, unbeaten 117 not out part of an opening stand of 231 for Valley against Sunshine Coast.
Not to be out done was Burns who went even better against Ipswich with 134 not out (130 balls) against Ipswich.

Burns (Norths) shared a 212 run stand in a strong win over Ipswich with rookie bat Addy Grewell who had the distinction of scoring a maiden ton – a neat 100 runs off 100 balls.
But even better numbers came from Hinkley in two rounds of Katherine Raymont Shield women’s first grade T20 competition, with the WBBL Heat rep blazing 118 (72 balls) in one knock and 53 (26 balls) in another against Gold Coast and Ipswich respectively.
Throw in 2-31 from four overs against Gold Coast and you also have a player of the round nominee.
WBBL Heat and Queensland Fire teammate, all-rounder Charli Knott (UQ), made our team of the Week for the second successive week – as did Fergus McFadyen (Norths) from Lord’s Taverners competition.
Knott posted 74 not out off 48 balls against the Gold Coast, while young McFadyen stroked 99 of 98 balls against Toombul.
But it was not just a round for batters, with right-arm pace bowler Lily Bassingthwaite (Wests) snaring 4-13 (four overs against Sandgate-Redcliffe) and Souths leg-spinner Melissa Lewis taking 5-9 off eight overs in the opening round of the Jodie Fields Shield second grade women’s competition against Redlands.
And maintaining a proud family tradition was Will Dooley (Wests) who in the Alan Pettigrew Shield second grade claimed 5-36 against Redlands.
Do
oley is the younger brother of WBBL and WNCL player Josie Dooley and Wests regular Paddy Dooley.
Ex South Australian batsman Connor McInerney (Redlands) also extracted turn in his team’s first grade win over Redlands, with his left arm spin snaring 5-19 from 4.3 overs.
