We reveal some of the best midfield-centre players who drive their team forward by hand or by foot.

Grace Cooper, Rhianna Ingram and Scarlett Featherstone (Southport)

An under age player in the under-17s, the 14-year-old continues to improve at a great rate of knots. Her ability to win her own footy both in a contest and in the air is absolutely

outstanding, but her link play with her teammates is another of her strengths.

The Sharks also have Suns acadey under-18 midfielder Rhianna Ingram and recent Scarlett Featherstone, a hard running, skilled mid fielder, as high class directors of traffic.

Isabella Shackleton (Everton Park)

Everton’s No.1 ruck, Shackleton tends to dominate and give her side first use of the middle which gets Everton up and firing.

Jess Wallace (Broadbeach)

A hard working midfielder, Wallace was someone who could play a variety of attacking or defending roles. She is honest, reliable and a trusted teammate who thrives on when situations are difficult or challenging.

Wilston Grange girls listen intently to a quarter time address.

Issy Levine (Wilston Grange)

Wilston Grange’s Division 1 prime mover, Levine was a genuine midfield/centre who has a big engine and who just gets to contest after contest after contest - winning the ball and giving possession to her runners for first use. Levine was also one of the team captains who leads by example both on and off the field.

Raff Baviello, Sophie Schulze, Molly Ferguson and Jemma Foley from Maroochydore.

Sophie Schulze (Maroochydore)

The Maroochydore captain, Schulze is a hard at it player who leads from the front with her fierce attack on the footy. She also features a booming kick.

Schulze was also a great endurance athlete meaning she can get to more contests than most.

Sarah Johnson (Coorparoo)

Johnson’s first year of footy has seen her natural talent come to the forefront. With a background in soccer, she has added to her game by foot by displaying run and carry. Normally playing a high half forward role, Johnson has a defensive mindset, but when the Roos win the ball she is ready to link through to her tall forwards. Not a game goes by where you don’t see Johnson have a bounce gaining metres for the team.

Lauren Grounds (Aspley)

Potent around the half back flank or the midfield, Grounds is a hard at the ball, tough player who consistently wins the contested ball to turn defence into attack.

Evie Hokins (Tweed Coolangatta)

Evie Hokins has found her position on the half back line, with her silky skills complimenting her run and carry for the border footy club.

Mikayla Styles (Coorparoo)

With her about to run at both ends, Styles has found herself playing more of a wing role this year. She has had an impact with her strength at contests, but also with her ability through her work rate to create numbers in defence. Styles is learning the position this season, and has shown an ability to turn defence into attack quickly, all the while being a vital link in the teams ball movement.

Heidi Grimster (Tweed Coast Northern Rivers)

Grimster isa highly skilled utility player from the Ballina Bombers junior system. She has been a high energy, hard running and skilky skilled midfielder for the Tigers over the last three seasons. “When it comes to heart and spirit, this girl is hard to top,’’ said head coach Steve Foreman.

Molly Ferguson (Maroochydore)

An outstanding player, Ferguson plays midfield where she has a high work rate. Her repeat efforts and endurance means she gets from contest to contest racking up possessions. She is elite when it comes to being effective and can play all over the ground. She is also a prominent female surfer with Alexandra Headland SLSC.

Claudia Hill, Charlotte Cran, Mackenzie Hale, Ava Jacobsen (Wynnum)

The versatile Jacobsen is able to slide into a variety of roles, and certainly heads the prime mover brigade alongside of the fiercely determind Cran who never takes a backward step, the courageous Hill and the big hearted Hale.

Raff Baviello (Maroochydore)

Baviello also goes through the mid field but her footy smarts means she can play anywhere. She has elite skills and her possessions were rarely wasted.

Alannah McNally of Tweed Coast is originally from the Ballina Bombers

Alannah Mcnally (Tweed Coast Northern Rivers)

Mcnally is a powerhouse onballer who gets first hands on the ball at just about every contest. Her speed, energy and intensity are electrifying and inspirational to her teammates.

Jemma Foley (Maroochydore)

Foley is a general down back who also uses the ball well with her long kicks out of defence. She can play through the midfield where her strength and footy IQ were on display.

Ella Butler, Leila Travers, Abby Chardon (Sandgate)

The Hawks two rucks in Ella Butler and Leila Travers were tremendous in the roles they play for Sandgate, while Abby Chardon moves her side forward either from the midfield or backline.

Matilda Ready (Aspley)

Playing centre half forward or full forward, Ready presents as a great target who can take a good grab or can make a contest to bring the ball to ground. The girl teammates affectionately call Tilly was also effective in winning the contest ball as well as being a goal kicker.
