Residents have been demanding it for decades and now the launch of a historic new Brisbane cinema is weeks away.
Wynnum’s first cinema in more than 40 years is approaching its final stages of construction in order to be ready for their first showing in March with the operator for the venue also to be announced on February 8.
The $30 million development from Berrima Develop Pty Ltd also includes 66 apartments as part of the Lato Baia residential complex with 40 already sold.
And Justin Ham from Berrima Develop Pty Ltd, who has spent more than $74 million on projects to revitalise the Wynnum CBD, has taken readers through a tour of the much-anticipated cinema in the video above.
“It (cinema) is something that will completely change the area,” Mr Ham said.
“Wynnum has been going through a revitalisation as far as developments with residential projects, new eateries and breweries coming to the area but this will be the centre of everything in the CBD.
“It will really make Wynnum a bit of an entertainment precinct.”
Mr Ham said the 522-seat boutique cinema on Berrima St will be perfect for the area’s growing demographic of young families.
It will feature six theatres, two gold class and there is also a podium Marble Bar.
He also said he expected baysiders and residents from all over Brisbane to take to Wynnum for the cinema’s launch.
“I think it will be an epic opening, we’re expecting people to pack into the cinema when we open the doors and for the nearby restaurants and bars to be filled with people,” Mr Ham said.
“It will be a historic moment for the bayside.”
Also with more than 60 per cent of the apartments at Lato Baia already sold and buyers expected to move in within the next two weeks, Mr Ham said he expected the rest of the building to sell quickly.
