National Storage warehouse development approved for Tingal Rd, Wynnum
A local councillor has expressed his anger after a giant warehouse from National Storage was approved despite fierce opposition from residents.

A giant multimillion-dollar warehouse project from a high-profile Australian company is on its way to Brisbane’s bayside after the development was controversially approved.
Brisbane City Council approved National Storage’s application for a four-storey warehouse on one of Wynnum’s busiest streets in Tingal Rd.
The decision was made on Monday despite fierce opposition from not only bayside residents but Councillor for Wynnum Manly Peter Cumming (ALP) with the main concerns being the size of the warehouse and also the noise a 24-hour operation would bring to the area.
And Cr Cumming was not happy with council’s decision, saying he was dismayed at the Adrian Schrinner LNP council’s approval.
“The approval allows a building 15 metres high,” he said.
“This is far too high for an industrial estate across the road from residential properties.
“Only light industry should be allowed near residential properties “
“In addition I still have concerns about noise from 24-hour, seven days a week operations such as loading and unloading trucks and using forklifts.”
But Brisbane City Council Civic Cabinet Char for City Planning and Suburb Renewal, Councillor Adam Allan (LNP), said the site was located within a Low Impact Industry zoned area, which anticipated a building height of 15m with the approved project to be within 13.8 to 14.6m.
He also said the response from Cr Cumming was disappointing.
“It is very concerning that a Labor councillor with many years of experience is attacking the independent council officers who make planning decisions,” he said.
“These officers do a tremendous job in a complex environment and they should not be subjected to politically-motivated attacks that are deliberately false and misleading.
“As is standard practise, Council officers worked with the applicant throughout the process to address concerns about setbacks, stormwater management, vehicle access and noise.”
National Storage’s general manager of development, Nick Crang, said they were excited to join the Wynnum community.
“National storage is excited for the opportunity to repurpose an existing under-utilised industrial location to one that better serves the local community and businesses,” he said.
