M4A1 Gel Blasters at Wynnum closes, relocates to Capalaba store

After two years, one of Australia’s largest distributor of gel blaster guns has closed one of its Brisbane locations but it’s believed the prime site won’t be left vacant for long.

Gel blasters will remain legal in Queensland but laws tighten from February 1.

One of Australia’s largest suppliers of gel blaster guns has shut the doors on one of its Brisbane locations just two years after the controversial store opened.

M4A1 Gel Blasters on the corner of Bay Tce and Edith St in Wynnum has closed with the team relocating to the company’s Capalaba store after deciding not to renew the lease, which ended Thursday.

The Wynnum store opened in June, 2019 despite some backlash from local residents, who believed the gel blasters looked like real guns and were being displayed so clearly.

The team at M4A1 Gel Blasters, who still have 16 stores in southeast Queensland, could not be reached for comment.

But Zac Dean from James Dean Commercial, who hold the listing to the location, confirmed the news.

Mr Dean said M4A1 Gel Blasters were great tenants and left the location in better condition than when they entered.

He also said the site, which is in a prime location in the heart of the Wynnum CBD, would not be vacant for long.

“I’ve already had three or four offers on it,” he said.

“The owner is a Chinese man from Sydney, whose family has owned it since 1992, and we have a vision for that site and the owner plans on putting significant investment into that tenancy and reset it with a good, solid anchor business.”

Mr Dean said the tenant who filled the vacancy would be from the professional services industry.

He also said the owner planned on continuing to refurbish the site, maintain the facilities and have it on the market at a decent rent figure.

Mr Dean urged other landlords, who run Wynnum CBD’s few vacant sites, to do the same.
