The developers behind the long-awaited Wynnum cinema complex have announced a tantalising new addition to their plans, unveiling a fancy, new cafe to be included in the new entertainment precinct.
Hype continues to build around the March launch date for the cinema, one of the most anticipated projects in the history of the Brisbane bayside suburb, with the operators for the venue to be announced on Saturday.
The cafe layout will integrate with the cinema main foyer with lounges and on street dining outside which can seat up to 150 people.
And the man behind the $30 million project, Justin Ham from Berrima Develop Pty Ltd, said a flashy waffle, gelato and pastry cafe – called Do Re Mi – will accompany the new movie theatres.
“This new cafe is a different type of venue that we don’t really already have in the area and is the perfect partner for the cinemas,” Mr Ham said.
“With this cafe opening, people who live in the building already have a nice eatery inside while others either coming to the cinema from the bayside or other areas around Brisbane can enjoy what the cafe has to offer either before or after a movie and make a day or night out of it.
“We really wanted something more that can help attract people to the area so more and more money could be invested in the bayside rather than people having to go to other areas to go and watch a movie and enjoy a meal.”
The news of the cafe opening comes at a time when the Wynnum entertainment scene is booming following the opening of a bunch of new eateries and bars since the COVID pandemic.
“We are seeing an uplift of house prices and an increase in local activity as the community wants to entertain in our area,” he said.
“This was always an issue with Wynnum, now it’s not. Jobs will grow and community will benefit.”
Mr Ham said he could not wait to see the cinema open and believed it would be a development that would have a massive impact on Wynnum’s future.
The operators for the cinema will be announced at an exclusive party at the Waterloo Bay Hotel on Saturday.
The development also includes 66 apartments as part of the Lato Baia residential complex with 40 already sold.
