A Brisbane restaurant owner, whose heroic actions trying to stop thieves led to horrific injuries, has recalled the moments he laid in the street fearing for his life after being run over.
“I’m lucky to be alive,” he said.
Nev Scott has returned home after spending the past week in the Princess Alexandra Hospital recovering from being seriously injured when he tried to retrieve a customer’s handbag when a woman allegedly stole it from his Bulimba restaurant, Amante Tapas, late on May 15.
The 46-year-old, who also owns La Quinta on Oxford St, suffered three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken leg and a sprained ankle.
Mr Scott, a father-of-one, has finally spoken since the ordeal which left him thinking he could have died.
“I have no memory of the event, I just woke up in the middle of the road in excruciating pain,” he said.
“How lucky I am to be here.
“I think about what I risked by just acting on instinct - my family, my business, my body.”
But Mr Scott hasn’t had to go through his recovery without any support, not only has he had his wife Jeanie Smith and daughter, Charlee, by his side but he’s also had the Bulimba community behind him.
A GoFundMe page started by fellow Oxford St business owner, Katie Boulter, has received more than $3000 to help Mr Scott get back on his feet.
“I have just been overwhelmed by the support from everyone, there’s no words to describe what it means,” Mr Scott said.
“It drives me to get back to work.”
Two people, including a 21-year-old Springfield woman and an 18-year-old Inala man were charged following the incident.
