Brisbane southside best pizza: Pancho’s Pizza crowned winners for 2021

More than three decades since coming onto the scene and three years after a shock move, this family pizza joint is still unstoppable.

More than three decades after exploding onto the Brisbane scene and three years after its shock move from a prime high-street, Pancho’s Pizza is still making heads turn with its famous cheese-filled breads and generous pizza.

Husband-and-wife duo Greg and Sandra Glynn’s foodie institution, founded in 1988 and located at Bulimba’s Oxford St until 2018, when it moved to take up the kitchen and breezy deck at Carina Bowls Club, has just been voted Best Pizza on Brisbane Southside by Quest Community News readers as part of the Delicious Local series.

Ms Glynn told the South-East Advertiser that while the family was “sad” to move from their home of 30 years, it has proven to be a “blessing in disguise” for their business.

“Our customers (old and new) love it, especially the deck location which has a fantastic outlook over the Clem Jones Centre sports fields,” she said.

Ms Glynn said the secret to Pancho’s success lies in the atmosphere of the venue and the generosity of serving sizes – the business’ motto is ‘Big on flavour, big on toppings’.

“I would have to say the best thing about Pancho’s is the consistency we have retained over the years in terms of great quality food, big servings and a casual friendly atmosphere,” she said.

And, after more than three decades in the game, the Glynns may be finally able to look forward to a well-deserved extended break.

“Thirty-three years on, we are still going strong and may soon have to semi-retire and confidently hand the bulk of the work over to our son, David, who has worked alongside us for more than 10 years,” Ms Glynn said.
