A new $68 million state school has been confirmed for a bayside suburb’s massive expected growth.
According to the state government, Redland Bay will have the new facility at 350 and 372 Serpentine Rd ready by first term in 2024.
It is planned to cater to students from Prep to Year 6 and is touted to bring 175 new jobs to the fast growing region.
The long underrated suburb is expected to grow by at least 10,000 residents as mega housing developments like Shoreline progress.
According to the Queensland Department of Education, the school’s designs are currently being considered with details to be released next year.
“Redland Bay’s newest state school will increase capacity in the local schooling network and provide enrolment relief to Redland Bay State School, Victoria Point State School and Mount Cotton State School,” a department statement read.
“The large population growth, the considerable number of additional primary students expected and the projected capacity pressure at nearby state schools all support the need for a new school.”
Situated to the south of the suburb it would cater to the dramatic population growth brought by the Shoreline development.
The Lendlease development is expected to create a minimum of 3000 new residential lots on 262 hectares, with construction well under way.
The suburb already has a primary school, less than 6km away, but with a doubling in the population since 2013, it is believed developers lobbied for a second school, while residents have been pushing for a high school in the area.
The Redland Bay school was one of 10 earmarked for funding in this financial year’s state budget.
State capital budget papers showed a massive $913 million for 10 new schools at Yarrabilba, Ripley, Redbank Plains, Palmview, Bellbird Park, Logan Reserve, Springfield and Redland Bay.
