New schools in Redland, Logan as population booms

Two of the state’s fastest growing regions will get the lion’s share of new schools over the next three years.
Logan and Redland will get five of southeast Queensland’s 10 new schools, four of which were revealed in the state government’s budget last week.
A housing estate development in southern Redland will get a primary school on its doorstep after the state government announced it would build a new school in the area by 2024.
The school is expected to be built near LendLease’s Shoreline project, which is being built for 10,000 people on Beenleigh-Redland Bay Rd.
The suburb already has a primary school, less than 6km away, but with a doubling in the population since 2013, it is believed developers lobbied for a second school, while residents have been pushing for a high school in the area.
The Redland Bay school was one of 10 earmarked for funding in this financial year’s state budget.
State capital budget papers showed a massive $913 million for 10 new schools at Yarrabilba, Ripley, Redbank Plains, Palmview, Bellbird Park, Logan Reserve, Springfield and Redland Bay.
Education Minister Grace Grace said the $913 million investment would be for the 10 new schools to open between 2023 and 2024.
New primary schools will be built at Augustine Heights in Jordan, at Ripley in Ipswich, at Bellbird Park, Bundamba, Yarrabilba, Logan Reserve in Waterford and at Redland Bay.
There will be four new high schools at Palmview in Buderim, at Springfield in Jordan, in the Logan Reserve-Park Ridge area and at Redbank Plains in Bundamba.
The new schools were in addition to the 18 the state has opened since 2015.
Four others are under way at Caloundra South, Coomera, North Maclean and in Brisbane’s inner west.
Residents had the chance of naming the primary school at North Maclean last week.
Nominated school names were Teviot State School, Teviot Junction State School and Everleigh Primary have been sent to Ms Grace.
Foundation principal Nicole Wheatley has been appointed and will oversee the opening at the beginning of the 2022 school year.
The school, in Ivory Parkway, Greenbank, will open to students from Prep to Year 6.
The school’s catchment has not been finalised.
