Coronavirus fails to halt Mirvac’s Greenbank school as Everleigh residents stay in touch online

The coronavirus has not hindered ground works on a new primary school at a large southside residential estate, where new residents are staying in touch online.

THE coronavirus has not hindered work on a serviced site for a future state primary school at Greenbank.

Developer Mirvac started ground works at the serviced site at 146 Teviot Rd in November and hopes to hand it over to the State Government by August.

The school site, which the state will manage, design and construct, is part of Mirvac’s development conditions to build its 3300-dwelling Everleigh masterplanned community.

The primary school will be on seven hectares and is expected to cater for 1000 students at its peak.

Last month, despite the coronavirus lockdown, construction started on dozens of new homes at Everleigh with the latest land release, the Reserve Release.

This month, Mirvac moved to ensure its new residents were not feeling isolated during the coronavirus and launched an online engagement program.

The online Enriching Communities Greenbank site is for residents and the wider Greenbank community to connect with each other from their homes during the coronavirus.

Enriching Communities Greenbank founder Suzanne Guastini said the virtual program, called Together We Belong, was “more important than ever”.

“We are inviting people from Everleigh and the broader community to join weekly phone chats with our team and each other, to phone in or video call new and existing friends they have made at our previous coffee, craft and social groups and encourage children to play together via their parents devices.”

The program can be accessed via the group’s Facebook page.

The program is a forum for new residents such as Diman Roy and Swaran Dutt, and their sons Dilan, 11, and Dishan, 5, who moved into their six-bedroom home in March.

“We did three years of hard research before we came across Everleigh and when we saw the masterplan we could not fault it, it is so well planned,” Mr Dutt said.

Mirvac general manager Warwick Bible said new residents continued to move in and many homes were still under construction.

He said the government planned a number of primary and secondary schools in the area to cater for the forecast growth in population in the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area.

A planned state high school will be about 4km southwest of Mirvac’s site.

The school will be situated alongside 25 hectares of regional sport and recreation parks, along with walking and cycling trails and a series of neighbourhood and linear parks,” he said.

Mr Bible said the school would be located so students could benefit from nearby sport and recreation facilities with the majority of students walking, cycling or scooting to school.

“People can now see the quality of the individual homes and first amenities that have been delivered, and can continue to join our virtual community program to stay connected and meet new people, which is so important in the current environment.”

Homes at Everleigh are among 215 hectares of green space, spanning conservation parkland, sports fields and recreation parks, along with a range of community facilities, including a the planned State primary school.

The 481 hectare Everleigh estate is about 30km from the Brisbane CBD and is inside the State Government-declared Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area.

Homesites in the newest Reserve release range from 300 sqm to 616 sqm, with prices for 375 sqm lots starting at $181,500.

Everleigh is within the state government’s Priority Development Area (PDA) and will provide about 3300 dwellings for about 9000 people of the estimated 50,000 who will move into the area.
