An aspiring childcare worker has faced court after a horrific attack in which she punched a woman’s head in and poured an energy drink over her.

Cleveland resident, Brittany Breanna Devine, 19, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 6, to one count of common assault, two counts of stealing and one contravention of a community service order.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Duncan Blackburn told the court the woman was at a McDonald’s car park in Capalaba last year to swap property with a woman she knew.

“The defendant has contacted the victim to collect some property,” Sgt Blackburn said.

“They exchanged property through the window of the car.

“The defendant has become angry, abusing the victim.”

The court heard Devine drove down Finucan Rd in Cleveland in pursuit of the victim before they were forced to stop at a red light.

“The defendant has gotten out of her vehicle, approached the victim and through an open window has poured an energy drink over the victim and started striking the victim with a closed fist,” Sergeant Blackburn said.

“The victim has driven straight to the police station and attended the hospital later.

“It would have been quite frightening for the victim being struck at a traffic light.”

Devine was also caught stealing $636 worth of property from Tommy Hilfiger and Bras n Things at Westfield Mt Gravatt on June 29.

“She’s removed a bra from the rack and placed it in her personal bag,” Sergeant Blackburn said.

“She’s taken three Tommy Hilfiger jerseys and left the store, making no attempts to pay.”

Her lawyer, Mr Parker, said his client had a relationship breakdown and had poor mental health.

“The relationship with her and her friend had broken down,” Mr Parker said.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Devine was going to end up in jail if she kept offending.

“When she gets angry she just lashes out, punches peoples, pours drinks over them, just thinks she can behave however she wants,” Ms Vasta said.

“Abusing people in public, going off your nut whenever you feel like it.

“You’re not three years old.

Devine was given two years’ probation.

Convictions were recorded for stealing and the common assault.
