The club, which is currently on Telegraph Rd, Fitzgibbon, has to move to make way for a $7 million netball precinct.

The 40-year-old club was originally told council would help them relocate to a new purpose-built site off Roghan Rd, which was later deemed unsuitable because of expensive remediation issues.

On April 10 the club was told they had to move by May 21, which concerned members who had no new site to move to.

However since then club members have met with Cr Amanda Cooper (Bracken Ridge) a couple times and have identified a couple of potential new sites in the ward.

“There is one in particular and at our next meeting we will go through that site and see if it is suitable,” Cr Cooper said.

“If we all agree it is, it will take about 18 months to get that site up to the right standard with all the facilities in place for the pony club.”

Club vice-president Amy Jenkinson said “we’re happy with that”.

“We’re reasonable as long as we have somewhere to call home.”

In the meantime club members have moved most of their horses and gear to Redcliffe.

“At the moment we trade at Redcliffe Pony Club,” Ms Jenkinson said.

“They’ve been amazing. They helped us move our gear and are allowing us to hold our events, clinics and musters (twice monthly lessons for members).

“They’ve also taken in a few of our horses.”

Ms Jenkinson said only one horse still needed to find a new home.

“We’re nearly there. I’m really happy. Amanda has been really helpful and considerate,” she said.

In relation to the May 21 date, Cr Cooper said, “Council was working to a date but when some of the horse owners had trouble finding suitable agistment we said we’d work with them to a date that they can manage.

“We’re now working with individual owners of horses.

“We’ve been having some really good discussions with the club. We’re meeting fairly regularly and we’re spending a lot of time talking about what the club needs and what options there are for the club.”

Cr Cooper said she was pleased to see the support local people had shown the club.

“I definitely think they (pony club) are part of our local community; they’ve been there for a long time.

“We want them to be in a location that is the right location for them so they can stay for as long as they want to be there.”
