BRAMBLE Bay Pony Club in Fitzgibbon will move to a new location next year to make way for a $7 million netball precinct.

Council announced on Wednesday that it would build four netball courts with lighting, an 80-plus carpark and a new green space for recreation — all on land currently leased by the pony club on Telegraph Rd.

Cr Amanda Cooper (Bracken Ridge) said council would help the club relocate to a new site on land west of Hidden World Playground, off Roghan Rd.

“We have been talking to the club for some time and they have basically said they were keen to move,” Cr Cooper said.

“They said the precinct is getting too noisy (since the completion of the skate ramp and BMX facility) and too many people are wandering through.

“We’re willing to help them relocate so we’ll set them up in the new location, which will provide a quieter environment for the horses.”

Cr Cooper said the site, like all of the Bill Brown Sports Park, was a former dump “so there are contamination issues”.

“With the netball courts we’re capping the contamination,” she said.

“The land is all fine for the pony club but we might put in additional top dressing to make sure the grass is growing sufficiently.

“We will have to do earthworks to the site and will have to level it.”

Cr Cooper said the pony club would be able to access their new block from the road near Hidden World Playground.

“We’ll upgrade that road and get a better connection for them and ... we’ll build the fences, a show ring and some facilities. They will then be responsible for maintaining their facility.

“We’ll be working with them to do all that. We haven’t finalised the design but it will happen over the next six to eight months.”

Bramble Bay Pony Club declined to comment.
