Motorcyclist Jacob James killed at Holland Park to be honoured with epic final ride

The mother of a young motorcyclist killed in a Brisbane traffic crash last week has extended her forgiveness to the driver of the car involved despite her family’s anguish.

QLD's 2022 road toll described as "concerning"

The heartbroken mother of a young motorcyclist killed in a horrific crash at Holland Park last week said she held no malice towards the driver of the car involved despite her family’s anguish.

Toowoomba man Jacob James, 25, died in hospital following the crash on Thursday, September 29, when his motorcycle and a Mercedes collided along Logan Road near Abbotsleigh Street.

He was just 500m from his home at the time.

Mr James’s mother Cassandra James said her family was broken.

“You should never take one moment for granted with those that you love,” she posted to the Holland Park Community Facebook page.

“Let go of anger and always tell them you love them.”

Ms James said her son fought fiercely for his life in hospital but his injuries were too severe.

“He was 500m from home when his life suddenly ended,” she said.

“I have no hard feelings and he loved riding so much.

“I send love to the person who [allegedly] collided with him because I don’t want any more lives destroyed.”

Meanwhile, the southeast Queensland motorcycle community will rally behind the young rider’s family to ensure he receives the honourable send-off he deserves.

Mr James’s partner Kellee Fuller took to the SEQ Motorcycle Riders Facebook group to extend an invitation to her partner’s final ride to Mt Glorious on October 11.

“He was my love and please help me show him the respect and care he deserved,” she said.

“He would have loved a group of bikes and always wanted to ride with people.”

Ms Fuller said his ashes would be carried by her father on a Ducati — a bike he always wanted to ride.

“Sadly he didn’t make it and was taken from me far too soon,” she said.

“He absolutely loved his bike and rode amazingly.

“I was often his backpack and saw his love first hand.”

The community of motorcyclists expressed their deepest condolences to the man’s loved ones — with many vowing to join the ride in honour of their fallen comrade.

The horrific crash occurred less than 24 hours before the Queensland Police Service’s September road safety campaign ended, which targeted dangerous driving behaviours.

Too many Queensland families will have an empty seat at the Christmas table this year, as more than 225 people lost their lives during the first nine months of 2022, up from a high of 204 in 2021.

Of those fatal crashes, 22 occurred at Darling Downs, 20 at Ipswich, 17 at South Brisbane, and eight at north Brisbane and the Moreton region.

Road policing and regional support command acting chief superintendent Chris Stream said during the operation 13 lives were lost on Queensland roads.

“Officers have dedicated more than 18,000 hours toward this operation … they see the worst of the worst when it comes to road trauma and their motivation is to see no more lives lost on our roads,” acting chief superintendent Stream said.

“Any police officer will tell you, we never forget the lives behind those numbers – their tragedy becomes our trauma, our motivator is to curb this needless heartache and we make no apologies for doing so.”

Acting chief superintendent Stream said officers could not be on every corner and poor decisions can very easily be prevented by checking in with yourself and others.

“We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.

“While calling out a friend or family member’s poor driving can be a hard conversation to have, it may very well be lifesaving — I’d encourage everyone to get comfortable having these chats.”
