Husband who lost wife in D’Aguilar Hwy head-on crash thanks community

The husband of a 37-year-old Wamuran woman, who lost her life making the school run with their eight-year-old daughter, has spoken for the first time with an update on the little girl after last week’s horror crash.

QLD's 2022 road toll described as "concerning"

The husband of a 37-year-old Wamuran woman, who died at the scene of a shocking car crash on the D’Aguilar Highway north of Caboolture on August 29, has confirmed their eight-year-old daughter is recovering at home.

after undergoing multiple surgeries after the crash.

The Wamuran community has rallied around the family, raising more than $26,000 raised through a GoFundMe page started by Moreton Bay councillor Tony Latter on behalf of the family, who asked for privacy.

Witnesses reported the eight-year-old was trapped in the car for some time before being rushed to hospital, with head, pelvis and serious leg injuries.

Mr Latter shared the husband's words on behalf of the family.

“Last Monday, my best friend, wife and someone that’s been an incredible mother to our daughter was taken from us,” the husband wrote.

“But, in nothing short of a miracle, I can confirm that our daughter is home safe, wrapped in love and on her way to recovery.

“On behalf of our family, I wanted to take a moment to say ‘thank you’ to all of you.

“Two words, among many others, that feel like they can’t truly convey the level of gratitude from the very bottom of our hearts to all of you for all the love and support you have shown in our hour of need.

“You have been there for us, and the entire community’s kind words, thoughts and actions have genuinely touched us and offered great comfort in this time.

“While we as a family are still in the process of planning how we can celebrate her life, many have asked how we might be able to pause for a moment to honour her memory.

“I believe she would want you to invite those you love to be around you to share kindness, laughter, food and love and to raise a glass, or a few, to them, her and this wonderful community she loved to call ‘home’.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts again.”

Earlier, police said a Toyota utility was travelling westbound when the car and a Mazda hatchback collided at Moodlu, north of Caboolture.

The highway was closed at the Williams Bridge overpass in the Caboolture area and traffic diverted to Williams Rd. It reopened about 1pm.

Moreton Bay councillor Tony Latter said the girl was being supported by her mother’s partner.

“The pair now faces a long journey of recovery and facing the future without their much loved mum,” Councillor Tony Latter said.

“The loss of a young Wamuran mother is devastating and I cannot start to comprehend what the family is feeling,” he said.

“The aim is to provide money to pay for meals, such as YouFoodz, and a cleaner for the next little while so that the family can focus on the recovery of the 8-year-old daughter and what the future holds.

“Any support given will be appreciated and money will go directly to the family.”
