Neighbours claim they saw four children enter and leave a Logan house before it burst into flames Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called about 9.50am to the Muchow St, Beenleigh, house but arrived to find it fully engulfed. The house was completely gutted.
Five emergency crews had the blaze mostly under control by 10.15am.
Neighbours said the new owners were yet to move in, but Queensland Police Tuesday confirmed they were investigating whether the four juveniles had allegedly been squatting at the house “for some time.”
The neighbours, who asked to not be named, said they had spotted four children hanging around for the past two or so months.
No cause has yet been determined, but police said they were treating the fire as suspicious.
No charges have been laid.
Residents said there was a lot of crime in the area and they saw suspicious activity just before the fire broke out.
“I’ve been trying to get my mum to move out for so long,’’ one neighbour said.
“I heard the explosion from inside the house, I thought it was the people building behind the road.
“The police knocked on my door and said ‘get out there is a fire next door’”
The woman said when she came outside, the house was “already smoking.”
“I freaked out, I thought of what to get from (my) house, a lot of important documents,” she said.
The woman said the house was empty but she saw about four children enter, and leave between 8.30-9am.
The neighbour said the property was sold several months ago but the new owners were yet to move in.
