Joey’s brother, Fadi Tahan, said the family was heartbroken but deeply grateful for the time they had with him.

“Joey lived in a way that we all wish we could live. He was free spirited yet innocent, hungry for life and adventure,” Mr Tahan said.

“He placed Jesus at the centre of his life, and because of this, he loved everyone wholeheartedly and unconditionally.

“He was selfless, cheeky, hilarious, kind and humble. He had no earthly desires other than living every day fully and being with his family.”

According to loved ones, Joey faced his terminal diagnosis with an undying sense of optimism.

“From the day Joey was diagnosed until his passing, there was never a complaint nor did he ever ask ‘why me?’.

“He was resilient, strong, and often he was the one who comforted us through his journey,” his brother said.

“In his own words, Joey reminded us always that ‘God is using me as a vessel, I am not afraid. We must surrender and only then will we know peace’.

“Joey was my brother, my confidant, my rock, my purpose and my friend. I miss him dearly, but I still feel his warmth around me, reminding me he is with me wherever I may go.

“Joey’s memory will be eternal and he will be missed by his family Chalita, Sadie, Peter, Fadi and Sarah Tahan and by all those who were blessed enough to have been graced with his presence.”
