Wet weather is believed to have contributed to a horror crash in Brisbane’s east that has left a 12-year-old boy fighting for life.

A 12-year-old boy has been critically injured after a car hit a traffic light pole in a serious crash in Brisbane’s east Thursday morning.

The horror smash unfolded when a red 2005 Commodore lost control in wet weather at the intersection of Manly and Hargreaves roads at Manly at 9.34am, mounting a traffic island and crashed into a traffic signal pole.

Three people were injured, including the boy who was initially trapped in the vehicle and assessed at the scene as critically injured.

Two adult men were also in the car at the time and were treated for minor injuries.

The 12-year-old was freed from the backseat of the car about 10.30am and taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, while the two men were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in stable conditions.

A bystander was also treated for chest pain and shock.

A police supervisor at the scene said wet weather was believed to have caused the crash.

“The vehicle was travelling eastbound and they’ve lost control as they’ve come up to the intersection,” the officer said.

“They’ve mounted the island and crashed into a power pole, which is now under the car.”

The officer said it was too soon to confirm if those in the car had been wearing seatbelts.

“That will be investigated like it is in all crashes but I’m assuming they would have been (wearing a seat belt) because otherwise their injuries would have been so much worse.”

He said witnesses reported the car travelling at a relatively normal speed prior to the crash, and credited a nearby ambulance crew for their quick response.

“There was actually an ambulance on the road heading back to the city when it happened, so even though the crash was called in by eyewitnesses, paramedics were here almost straight away.

“That was really lucky in that sense because they were able to start treating the patients almost as soon as the crash happened.”

The forensic crash unit has begun their investigations and expect the car will be moved in the coming hours.

One onlooker described the scene as “horrific” and “so, so confronting.”

“I just came down to do some shopping and I saw all the police and got a bit worried, and then I saw the car,” she said.

“It’s a mess, the whole front of the car has basically gone.”

Diversions have been established along Hargreaves Rd to quell any traffic delays.

The crash is opposite the Mayfair Village shopping complex.

It’s been a horror 24 hours on Brisbane area roads, with two people killed overnight.

Also this morning, emergency services have freed a person who was trapped in their truck after it rolled in Fortitude Valley.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the vehicle overturned when it was involved in a two-vehicle incident at the intersection of Brunswick and McLachlan streets about 9.12am.

Two other people escaped the vehicles and were not hurt.

One patient was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital in a stable condition and the road was cleared by 10.15am.
