An ex-private school girl’s sad descent into homelessness, drugs and theft has been revealed to a Caboolture court.
Renee Nicole Tucker, 47 of Rothwell, sobbed with her head in her hands as Magistrate James Blanch heard of her steep decline into drug use since 2018.
Tucker, a mother of four who according to social media attended girls-only St Mary’s College in Ipswich before becoming a customer service manager at KFC, appeared via video link after spending the night in custody.
The court heard Tucker’s string of offending included multiple thefts from shops — taking more than $300 on one occasion.
The court heard Tucker stole $309.95-worth of makeup products from Priceline pharmacy at Kippa Ring, and five perfumes totalling $175 from Chemist Warehouse at North Lakes on another occasion.
The court heard homelessness and a drug habit as well as mental health problems had exacerbated her descent into crime.
However Magistrate James Blanch said while Tucker — who was supported in court by her mother — claimed the stealing took place while she was homeless, “the things you stole weren’t necessities” and included the perfume as well as handbags.
“I hope the night in custody has rammed something home to you,” he said.
She pleaded guilty to a string of charges including multiple stealing offences and possessing drugs and utensils and was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay $585.10 compensation.
She was also convicted and not further punished on one count of unlawful dealing with shop goods.
