A Caboolture truck driver, linked to the bashing death of  Robert “Jessie” Jordan, has been jailed following a lengthy list of disqualified driving.

Brendan James Tavella uttered the words “love you bubby” to his partner as he was taken into custody, after facing Caboolture Magistrates Court Friday.

Tavella had pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and utensils, an offence involving registration certificates and two counts of driving while disqualified by a court order.

The court heard the 38-year-old father and truck driver had developed a drug addiction and had seven previous convictions for disqualified driving.

“Unfortunately, Mr Tavella, you have developed an addiction in respect of methamphetamine in order for you to work beyond your body’s natural limits,” Magistrate Peter Hasted said.

He was given a head sentence of 14 months’ jail for driving while disqualified by a court order at Rocklea on October 19, 2020, followed by a concurrent 12-month jail term for disqualified driving at Marsden on July 22, 2020.

Tavella had previously been before the courts, charged over the bashing death of Robert “Jessie” Jordan on Christmas day, 2012.

Tavella was one of five people to be charged over the death.

He pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court to manslaughter, although according to court documents relating to his co-accused, Tavella had said while he did accompany the group to see the victim he did not witness the assault.

In September, 2014, Tavella was sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment which was wholly suspended.

The sentence took into account 616 days for time already served which was not declarable.
