Plans for the former Club Arana and Arana Hills Swim School site have been revealed, more than a year the site was sold.

Demolition works have started at the property, at 303 Dawson Parade, Arana Hills, which was purchased by Moreton Bay Regional Council in 2019.

Locals have been wondering what might be replacing the former swimming school and fitness centre but details have been scarce.

However Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) has revealed their plans for site — which including “activating” the Arana Hills precinct in the future — and have also called for public input.

“Initially the site will provide additional parking for the PCYC and activities in Leslie Patrick Park,” a MBRC spokeswoman said.

“For the medium to long term, Council is investigating opportunities for community infrastructure at the site that will improve access to Council services and activities for the community.”

From next Monday, February 8, the council will be seeking community members to share their ideas to help shape the future of the public facility.

“Council wants resident to think big and think different,” the spokeswoman.

“What could it be? Extensions for the PCYC? An integrated facility with community hall and a library? Space for art? Media labs? A small business hub? Performing space? Indoor sports? Somewhere for community services to collaborate?”

Councillor Matt Constance (Division 10) said the plans were about community needs.

“As we say goodbye to the old Club Arana building, we look to the future,” local Councillor Matt Constance said.

“We will be asking residents to think big and different, and share their ideas to shape the future of this space.

“Owning this site isn’t about today or tomorrow, it is about the future of our community and the opportunities it will provide for generations to come.”
