The family of a teen killed in a motorbike crash on Australia Day has paid an emotional tribute to him as they struggle to come to terms with the tragedy.
Kallangur’s Caleb Selwyn Newman-Paine died after suffering significant injuries when the blue and white Yamaha trail bike he was riding along Thompson Rd about 11.20pm on January 26 collided with a guard rail.
Mr Newman’s brother, Josh, said his younger sibling was a great person who would be sorely missed.
“Caleb was someone who would do whatever he could to help someone in need,” he said.
“Caleb was always in love with fishing, dirt bikes and cars.
“He was always working on one thing or another and making things work, he was a gifted boy with a lot of heart.”
Kim-Marie Conway, a close friend of Mr Newman and his family, said he was “such a great guy”.
“He was loved by a lot of people, he was a great friend to my son and called me Mum or Mumzy,” she said.
“He loved his bike but he loved his friends and family more.
“He was a kind, gentle and loving guy, who we will miss deeply. We love you Caleb, we miss you so much already, gone but never forgotten, forever 19.”
Many of Mr Newman’s friends also paid tribute to their mate on social media in the days following the crash.
“Forever 19 gone too soon, party hard up there bro, stay on the back wheel,” one person wrote.
“Rest up brother, lost for words mate, absolutely broke me in to two today hearing this,” another person commented.
“Ride in peace Caleb Newman my brother, ️we all know how hard you will be pumping those track with the big fulla upstairs, forever 19,️ love ya bro.”
Investigations from the Forensic Crash Unit are ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact police.
A GoFundMe has since been started which has so far raised more than $3000 towards a $7000 target.
“Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a truly extraordinary soul, my beloved brother, Caleb,’’ it read.
“His departure has left a void that seems insurmountable, and as we navigate through this grief, we are reminded of the vibrant and loving person he was.”
“But Caleb’s love extended far beyond the waters.
“His heart raced at the roar of powerful engines, and his eyes sparkled at the sight of sleek automobiles.
“Cars were not just a means of transportation for him; they were a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his zest for life.
“In addition to his love for bikes, fishing, and cars, Caleb was blessed with an extended family of friends – a brotherhood that stood by him through thick and thin.
“His mates, the ones he laughed with, shared secrets with, and stood by through the highs and lows, were an integral part of his life.
“Caleb’s loyalty and genuine concern for his friends were qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.”
