What would make you an effective mayor?

After 18 years as an alderman/councillor and mayor of Redcliffe City Council, I am well versed with the workings of Local Government.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. To ensure that all residents receive the greatest value for the dollars they have paid in rates. There is no other way of putting this statement because it should be the prime aim of all elected members.

2. To ensure that our natural environment is preserved for the greatest benefit of all. By “all” I mean both human benefits and non-human.

3.To curtail or prevent unnecessary and foolish expenditure that benefits current elected members.

Who are you preferencing?

We will not hand out “how to vote” cards at any polling booth.

What would make you an effective mayor?

I bring three years’ experience as an MP, 12 years owning my own small business, 14 years in senior management.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. Putting in place a meeting structure with all of the councillors so that each and every councillor, and their residents, are assured of being heard and their needs best met.

2. Setting out with the 12 councillors a plan for urgent priorities within each of their divisions and ensuring this is communicated to their residents; transparency is key!

3. Fluoride has to go. We use a toxic waste class six poison, and there is nothing natural about it.

Who are you preferencing? Dean Teasdale

ALLAN SUTHERLAND

Occupation: Mayor

What would make you an effective mayor?

I am the only mayoral candidate who has

the experience leading a council of this size. Under my leadership, this council was

awarded the strongest, and fastest growing economy.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. Cap council rates around CPI. Queensland Treasury Corporation found this was one of the strongest and most financially stable councils in the state, delivering six consecutive budgets in surplus.

2. Protect our leafy iconic suburbs and beautiful hinterland areas.

3. Bust congestion and upgrade roads. Moreton Bay Rail line opens shortly, taking cars off the highway for every train. A new university campus will be delivered – creating thousands of jobs.

Who are you preferencing? No one.

DEAN TEASDALE

Occupation: Business manager

What would make you an effective mayor?

I will listen, be open, accountable. Our vast region is growing at a rapid pace I have a strong and vested interest in ensuring Council delivers for the entire region.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. Cost of living – cap rates at CPI and ensure the council lives within its means too. We have a growing council and region. We must stop the trend to centralise services.

2. Back a basic focus on roads, rates and rubbish. If you want to change the council you have to change the mayor. I would be a mayor for the entire region.

3. Ensure consistency across the region. A division by division report on revenue and spending. We all want our region to be consistently great.

Who are you preferencing? First, foremost Vote 1 Dean Teasdale.

I have worked within government departments for over six years. I have strong people skills and compassion for people. I do not have any connections with businesses or property developers so I do not have a side motive.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. Lower rates and water cost. I will do this by getting a member of the council on the board at Unitywater.

2. Bring back equal spending across the whole region so that everyone gets an equal share.

3. Encourage more business to the region and have greater support for the current businesses. I want to employ an industrial business development manager.

Who are you preferencing? Vote 1: HOGAN, Shayne, 2: MCNAUGHT, John, 3: BOLTON, Barry, 4: WOODFORTH, Jason, Sutherland and Teasdale need to be 5 and 6.

I have had 10 years experience as a Shire Councillor, trained in large scale administration from the Army. Proven track record of dealing with the community in an honest, fair, trustworthy manner.

What are your three top priorities if elected, and how would you pursue them?

1. Investigate the legal relationship between the three councils and Unitywater. Seek advice from the Minister for Local Government on the process to disengage from the relationship.

2. Restore the public consultation policy and find out why procedures have not been followed and restore public trust in the council.

3. Formulate the first budget and determine what debt the council has.
