A court north of Brisbane has heard the man who allegedly stole and crashed a cop car into a tree, while wearing just his undies, was in ‘too much pain’ to give his lawyer instructions today.
Anthony Leon Lavelle, 37, of Kurwongbah, had his charges adjourned at Pine Rivers Court today, Wednesday, October 4 after being hospitalised and taken into custody yesterday morning when he allegedly stole police car in Narangba and drove it to Mango Hill where he crashed it into a tree.
Police will be alleging they were called to a disturbance at the Boundary Rd, Narangba, overpass about 3.21am where he was allegedly armed with a knife.
It will be alleged he then managed to evade police and steal a cop car which he drove 8km away towards the North Lakes McDonald’s before crashing it on Anzac Avenue at Mango Hill.
Police said he then allegedly ran from them on foot before being tased and arrested.
Mr Lavelle was charged with two counts of obstructing police (public place adversely affected) and one count each of going armed so as to cause fear, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and wilful damage of police property.
His lawyer, Miss Bowtell, from KLM Lawyers, told the court Mr Lavelle was in “a lot of pain” and unable to give instructions for a bail application.
The matter was adjourned until October 18, at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court, for a bail application.
Mr Lavelle will appear via video link.
