A Legal Aid funding holdup has slowed progression of a court case against a mother and her partner accused of murdering their five-week-old baby in Logan in 2021.
Robert Alan Gee, 45, and Kristie Lee Wilmott, 36 allegedly murdered Wilmott’s five-week-old son Michael Wilmott on June 14, 2021 in Daisy Hill.
Police allege Stretton man Mr Gee shook the baby, who was not related to him to death and Zillmere woman Ms Wilmott did not act to save the child or inform the authorities.
The matter was heard in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 23.
Mr Gee’s defence lawyer Sophia Dreese asked the matter be adjourned to December 13 to line up with the co-accused Ms Wilmott.
“I understand on the last occasion the matter was adjourned so prosecution could disclose the material and that has now been received,” she said.
Police prosecutor Karine Evans said the matters were progressing before the courts.
“Sergeant Stephen Cochrane has carriage of both co-offender’s matters”, she said.
“We are seeking to keep the matters moving together for a committal hearing, there has been a delay with the co-accused’s Legal Aid funding.”
The matters will next be mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 13.
