Two people are on the run after fleeing a fiery crash involving a stolen luxury car that shut down the Logan Mwy and forced homes to be evacuated.

A stolen Audi ploughed into a B-double truck in Brisbane’s south just after 8pm on Tuesday, sparking a massive inferno, destroying a truck carrying pesticides and lithium-ion batteries and causing hazardous smoke to billow into the air, police say.

It was also carrying other non-hazardous material which fuelled the massive blaze.

The incident happened on the Logan Motorway near the Kingston exit eastbound at Loganlea, with eight fire crews called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Police declared an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act just before 10pm and the motorway was closed in both directions, with an exclusion zone put in place.

The declaration was revoked around 7.30am on Wednesday morning.

One eastbound lane remained closed as of midday.

Residents have been urged to keep doors and windows shut.

Queensland Police believe the Audi was stolen less than half an hour before crashing into the truck, following a separate traffic crash between it and another car on Inala Ave in Durack.

At a media conference today, Queensland Police Service Logan Acting Inspector Adam Cordner said the Audi had been involved in a collision with a stolen Mazda 3. The Mazda was involved in a crash with a Ford Fiesta on Grange Rd at Eastern Heights.

He said two people in the Audi had fled the scene after the crash.

“They were certainly well enough to leave the scene immediately,” he said.

There were no reported injuries from the earlier crash and investigations are continuing.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the fire was extinguished at 9.20pm.

The driver of the truck was taken to Logan Hospital in a stable condition for observation.

Several Logan residents took to social media after sighting black smoke billowing from the direction of the motorway.

“Massive explosion on the Logan Hwy just before Kingston Rd Exit,” Nicole Raymond posted.

“Massive fire from what looks to be a truck. Both sides blocked at the time Loganlea exit/Kingston Rd on-ramp,” Andie Rulz posted.
