A pregnant Woolworths employee who bashed her co-worker over money she owed her, during a shift at a Logan store, has faced court for the attack.

Jessica Sager, 20, was working a shift at Woolworths in Logan Central on December 2, 2022 when an argument erupted with her co-worker, heard the court.

The co-worker owed Sager $80 from a road trip to Bundaberg for petrol money and refused to pay her, instead calling her a “broke ass bitch”.

Sager saw her while they were working a shift together and launched at her, violently punching her in the head.

She punched her with her right fist and then kneed her in the head and chest three times, before the fight was broken up by other staff.

The court heard the victim needed to wear a neck brace for a week after the attack and suffered a haematoma.

Sergeant Donna Kay said the offending was concerning.

“There was no provocation, it was a very violent attack and the serious nature of the assault against the victim is concerning,” she said.

The Kingston woman pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard Sager was pregnant and in the last trimester of her pregnancy.

She worked as carer for her brother in law and was aiming to be a support worker in the future.

Defence lawyer Zane Chapman said his client accepted her wrongdoing.

“She knows what she did was wrong and she went too far with the attack,” he said.

The court heard Sager had no criminal history.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop said the behaviour was unacceptable.

“She should be embarrassed,” she said.

“This was absolutely appalling behaviour. I don’t know what you were thinking, you clearly weren’t thinking.”

“You launched into her with multiple punches to the head.”

Sager was sentenced to an 18 month probation order and no conviction was recorded.
