An argument over parenting ended with a public bashing as a mother of four launched into a violent tirade against her ex-partner, a court has heard.

Alice Jayne Meehan pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 22 to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard the 43-year-old Beenleigh mother of four was drinking with her ex-partner in the afternoon in Logan on April 22.

An argument erupted over her parenting style and Meehan violently snapped.

She punched the man, pushed him over and then continued kicking him in the side while he was on the ground.

The court heard the victim suffered a swollen, bruised torso and bleeding from the nose.

Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said alcohol was no excuse for violence.

“I accept alcohol may have affected your decision making but it is not an excuse,” she said.

“You snapped and reacted in a completely inappropriate way, that is not the example you want to set for your children.”

Meehan was sentenced to an 18 month probation order and no conviction was recorded.
