A Logan drug trafficker caught with over $3,000 in cash, hundreds of clip seal bags and half a kilo of cannabis, has been jailed for violently attacking his partner with a knife.

Bailey Hidalgo, 27, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Friday, August 11 to possessing and trafficking dangerous drugs, assault occasioning bodily harm and threatening violence.

The court heard that the Logan Reserve man was trafficking cannabis from December 31, 2021 to March 9, 2022 and was caught with more than 500g of the drug.

Police found evidence on his mobile phone of transactions made using Facebook and encrypted app Telegram.

They also found $3,625 in cash, hundreds of empty clip seal bags, scales and evidence he had made $14,000 overall from drug deals.

On December 8, 2022 Hidalgo had an argument with his partner in Logan over horror movies.

He teased her and then marched towards her, putting his face right up in her face, heard the court.

Hidalgo then picked up a large kitchen knife and held it to her throat while threatening her.

“I don’t want to hear anything negative come out of your mouth again”, he said.

Hidalgo then pushed her on the couch and pinned her on it as they began yelling abuse at each other.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said domestic violence and drug trafficking had always been viewed seriously by the courts.

“Cannabis is not the benign drug people think it is and although your trafficking was low level it was still persistent and regular,” he said.

“Domestic violence is a major problem in society and your offending would have been utterly frightening for the victim.”

Hidalgo was sentenced to three years prison and released immediately on parole.

He had already served 125 days of pre-sentence custody.
