A North Brisbane father battling an extremely rare form of cancer has raised more than $300,000 from the community for treatment, as he makes a last chance attempt to live.

Clinton Parker, father of nine-year-old Isobel and husband to Caprice Sobels, was diagnosed with a sub acral melanoma two years ago.

The 49-year-old Ashgrove sustainability consultant said the only option left for treatment was an expensive, experimental option pioneered in the United States only 10 years ago.

The treatment has had a roughly 30 per cent success rate with patients overseas and gives Mr Parker hope for his family.

“I have a daughter and it is the last line of hope for us,” he said.

“This is it for me, there are no more treatments in Australia I can have, it’s my last chance to live.

“I have a young, sensitive, creative and intelligent daughter that I want to support through this world and I want to spare my wife the grief that will come from my premature death.”

The proud father, who is active in his Ashgrove and school’s community, spoke modestly of the $300,000 he has been able to generate.

“It was a bit overwhelming but blew me away completely.

“We feel life can be a bit murky but this made me hopeful, that we can get behind something and be positive.

“I have had emails from people in India donating five dollars, friends from school I hadn’t seen in 20 years donating money.

“The words I wrote on the page came from the heart and I think that resonated with people.”

Mr Parker shared on his GoFundMe page his positive mindset and resilient spirit when faced with such a stern battle.

“I have been fighting, been disciplined, focused and driven to live. I have used exercise, good food, clear mind and optimism as my foundation,” Mr Parker wrote on his GoFundMe page.

“I took whatever surgery or treatment they said I should and dedicated my effort for my family and friends.

“I did all this joyfully and gratefully.”

Isobel attends Oakley State School, the same school Mr Parker’s father went to as a child and he said he embraced the parents and community.

“When I was young I grew up in Logan Reserve but found myself drawn back to Ashgrove where our family now calls home.

“I’m really involved in Isobel’s school and the parents and staff have been incredibly supportive.”

The GoFundMe states the next 12 weeks is crucial as the family hope to reach their $550,000 target.
