A Logan man who stole $300,000 in jewellery has been jailed again for riding in a stolen car and obstructing police, only three weeks after his release from prison.
Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard Clinton Samuel Wayne Chand-Bell needed to get home from a friend’s house in January to make curfew.
He got a lift from his friend, who was driving a stolen car, which Chand-Bell told the court he should have known and taking the ride was ‘foolish’.
Police used road spikes to stop the car in Woodridge and Chand-Bell suffered injuries during the incident and the arrest.
The court heard while he was at the hospital he was physically and verbally aggressive with police.
The 21-year-old from Loganlea pleaded guilty on Monday to unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstructing a police officer, receiving tainted property and wilful damage.
He had previously been jailed by the Beenleigh District Court for five years, for $300,000-worth of theft and damage to property in 2022.
Chand-Bell was arrested in Woodridge only three weeks after he was released from custody for those offences.
Magistrate Mark Howden said on Monday Chand-Bell was wasting his life behind bars.
“He has been imprisoned his whole life,” he said.
“He has a very serious criminal history and is losing his youth in custody.”
He was sentenced to nine months in prison and will be eligible for parole immediately.
Chand-Bell’s 80 days of pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
