A young Gold Coast waitress poured vodka over her partner’s head, threw a video game controller at him then stabbed him in a heated dispute in their Logan home.

Beenleigh District Court heard on March 23, Tiara Lee Blackburn picked up a vodka cruiser bottle and tipped it over her partner’s head in their Woodridge home.

The 23-year-old Mudgeeraba woman then threw an Xbox controller at him and punched him five times in the head and bit his arm.

The court heard a fight broke out where her partner, who wasn’t accused of any wrongdoing, swept her legs and pushed her over and Blackburn grabbed a knife and waved it around, slashing his forearm.

Blackburn pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding for the attack that happened on midnight January 29, 2021.

The court heard she was four months pregnant at the time of the attack.

The victim went to hospital in an ambulance and suffered a large laceration to his elbow.

He was in hospital for four days and had difficulty lifting his arm for a month.

Prosecution said domestic violence was prevalent and offences where people used knives were particularly dangerous as there was potential for more serious consequences.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said unlawful wounding was always viewed as a serious offence by the courts.

“I understand you were tired and things got out of hand but you are very lucky you did not cause a more serious injury to him,” he said.

“You could have easily severed a blood vessel.”

She was sentenced to 12 months prison and immediately released on parole.

Blackburn had served three days of pre-sentence custody.
