Clinton Samuel Wayne Chand-Bell, 20, pleaded guilty in district court at Beenleigh on Tuesday to over 20 charges, including seven counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence.

The court heard Chand-Bell went on a crime spree involving 18 businesses and two individual complainants between October 12-November 25 in 2020 – the total value of property stolen or damaged was $307,331.87.

This includes property stolen to the value of $227,083.69 and damages to the value of $80,248.18.

One of the break ins involved an incident where Chand-Bell and a co-offender broke into the Club Hotel in Waterford and removed $15,000 from gaming machines on October 17.

In a separate incident, he used an axe to gain access to the Ipswich City Golf Club and took $2,500 in cash on November 13.

The court heard Chand-Bell, and four co-offenders broke into the Sunnybank Hills Shopping Centre and stole $78,000 worth of jewellery from Prouds Jewellery store on November 14.

He used a car to ram into a roller door and break into Snooze at Stones Corner, where he racked up $26,000 in damages despite not taking anything on November 24.

The court heard Chand-Bell, and two co-offenders broke into the Springwood Mall, stole $85,740 worth of stock from Ridge Jewels, and caused damages worth $47,000 on November 25.

He was located by police and arrested later that same day.

Chand-Bell’s lawyer said his client had a troubled childhood and began using ice at age 13.

He said his drug use increased at the time of the offending after he had experienced a bad relationship break up.

He said Chand-Bell had previously been working in scaffolding and landscaping.

Judge Craig Chowdhury sentenced him to five years imprisonment with a parole eligibility date on July 20 this year.

He also declared the 482 days he spent in pre-sentence custody as time served under the sentence.
