A court case has taken a dark turn today after a man charged with wilful exposure told a magistrate he was going to train to “become an exorcist”.
Luis Eduardo Salazar appeared in the Cleveland Magistrates Court this morning on charges of wilful exposure, public nuisance and obstructing a police officer.
The 25-year-old was charged after offences allegedly committed in Thornlands on May 4 this year.

However, the hearing took an unexpected turn after Magistrate Deborah Vasta asked whether the defendant was employed.
“No but I am going to seminary school to become an exorcist,” Mr Salazar said.
Magistrate Vasta adjusted bail for Mr Salazar, who can’t leave his address between 8pm to 6am every day, and has to attend all doctor and medical appointments and take all medication prescribed to him.
While on bail, the defendant was also told he was not allowed to carry knives or anything considered to be a weapon.
His case was adjourned until August 20.
