A Logan man on bail for more than 20 charges, the most serious being attempting to bash down his neighbour’s door at night with an axe as part of a long-running feud, has been arrested and charged with stalking his female bail officer over a seven-month period.

Slacks Creek man Antun Ivan Zaknic, 38, was arrested last Friday and charged with unlawfully stalking a senior constable at Springwood Police Station and breach of bail condition, taking his total number of charges to 23.

The court heard Mr Zaknic, who has previously been convicted of stalking, was bailed last November in Beenleigh Magistrates Court but it was not until April this year his alleged stalking of the senior constable began.

The court heard between April and his arrest, Mr Zaknic left “handwritten notes” on the alleged victim’s vehicle, sent her Facebook friend requests, attempted to message and audio call her through Facebook’s Messenger function up to six times a week, and asked other officers at the station whether she had a boyfriend.

The alleged contents of some of the messages were read onto the public record.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Mr Zaknic is said to have asked.

“If not, can I get to know you?”

The court heard on Wednesday morning, officers from the Criminal Investigations Branch seized Mr Zaknic’s phone, which allegedly contained photos of the senior constable screenshotted from her Facebook.

The court heard details of Mr Zaknic’s previous alleged offending, which largely centred around alleged offences against a family who lived across the road from him and with whom he had a long-running dispute.

He allegedly assaulted the 61-year-old mother by pushing her in her chest, stood in his front yard with a “10-inch knife” gesturing at their home, tried to break down their front door with an axe while the father tried desperately to block the door from within, and arrived at the daughter’s work at a Woolworths supermarket and stared at her until she escaped to the staffroom.

Some of his charges include multiple breaches of bail conditions, serious assault of a person over 60, common assault, going armed so as to cause fear and obstructing police.

However, despite this litany of alleged offending, Beenleigh Magistrate Louise Shephard determined Mr Zaknic could be bailed again on strict conditions.

They include that he report to police three times a week and be drug tested, report to a station other than Springwood, and not approach or contact any of his alleged victims.

His charges will be mentioned again on November 11.
