A bag snatcher targeted two elderly women at shopping centres on Brisbane’s southside and at the Redlands on Tuesday, causing bruises and grazes to one of them when she was knocked to the ground as she tried to wrench her handbag out of the vehicle the offender fled to.
Upper Mount Gravatt Police Station OIC Snr Sgt Murray Crone said the daring daylight raid which resulted in injuries to a 63-year-old woman occurred at Sunny Park shopping centre about 11.30am on Tuesday.

The woman was standing outside the permanently closed Captain Duck looking at her mobile phone with her handbag perched on a railing beside her.
“A man of solid build wearing a straw hat, hi-vis shirt and face mask has walked up and snatched the victim’s handbag and run off into an older model Black Mazda 323 hatchback which was driven by a second offender,” Snr Sgt Crone said.
“The victim chased the offender and attempted to reach into the vehicle to retrieve her handbag, but was knocked to the ground as the vehicle sped off.
“The woman suffered bruising and grazes from the fall.
“Police investigations suggest that the same vehicle and offenders are linked to a series of thefts from department stores across Brisbane south, including a similar bag-snatch style robbery of a 71-year-old woman at Capalaba Park shopping centre earlier on Tuesday.”
