Australian dual code rugby legend Lote Tuqiri has made a small fortune selling his triple storey Hamptons-style house in Brisbane where the market remains hot for luxury homes.
He had sunk $1.835m into the five bedroom, three bathroom, dual car garage home in 2015, a year after stepping down from professional rugby.
The Fiji born star is one of a rare breed of players to succeed at the top level of both rugby codes – playing 99 games for Brisbane Broncos including winning the 2000 NRL premiership, before shifting to union with the NSW Waratahs and playing for the Wallabies, then going back and forth including a stint with the Kangaroos until he retired at the end of 2014.

The home sold for $665,000 more than Mr Tuqiri paid, landing a $2.5m price after 23 days on the market. According to PropTrack data, Yeronga, which Mr Tuqiri has called home since 2015 seen a 28.2 per cent rise in median houses prices in the past 12 months to $1.41m – with his home over $1m higher than that.
Hutton & Hutton agent Lauren McHutchison had listed it for auction as a “rare opportunity” to snap up a luxurious Hamptons home in the tight Brisbane inner ring market of Yeronga.
The home has river views from the main bedroom’s balcony, with a loft for bonus storage off a pulldown ladder, a secure pool and a kitchen with pyrolytic double oven, gas stovetop, butler’s pantry and built-in coffee machine.
“The open plan kitchen and living transitions out to an alfresco outdoor kitchen with built-in barbecue and wine fridge while beyond, a landscaped backdrop featuring views to the Brisbane River.”
She marketed the home to those not wanting to deal with buildings for luxury houses, saying “why wait to build your own dream home when you can be all moved in by Christmas?”
Which is exactly what the new owners are doing.
