This house just made $200,000 in six months

In June, this four-bedroom house on a 709sq m block at 5 Pinetree Place, Runcorn sold for $750,000. Returning to market today it has just sold for $960,000 and is now one of the top 10 richest homes in Runcorn for a property under 800sq m. Agent: Mitch Schenning, Master Agents / Auctioneer: David Holmes

Deceased estate sells for less than $800,000 in Morningside

The median house price in this suburb is more than $1m so to pick up 9 Moolabar St, Morningside on a 405sq m block for $780,000 is quite an achievement in this market. Sure there's work to do, and it's a pre-war home so you can't demolish it, but it's only 5km from the city and it's the worst house on one of Morningside's best streets. Agent: Craig Loudon, Tobin Real Estate / Auctioneer: David Holmes

10 Chapel Hill Rd, Chapel Hill - Sold for $1.35m

Seven registered bidders took this five-bedroom home to auction where it sold for $1.35m which was $250,000 over its reserve price. Agent: Harry Kiss, Torres Property / Auctioneer: David Holmes

17 Lockyer St, Camp Hill - Sold for $980,000

Another low-maintenance townhouse heads to auction today, this one selling for $980,000 with five registered bidders. Agent: Natasha Dodeja, SAI Real Estate / Auctioneer: David Holmes.

29 Woking St, Mitchelton - Sold for $841,000

Mitchelton is one of the most popular suburbs for auctions this week with seven homes going under the hammer, including this three-bedroom lowset house on 719sqm that made more than $300,000 for the sellers in five years when it sold today for $841,000. Auctioneer Justin Nickerson had two registered bidders in play during the auction, with the property marketed through Richard Mirosch of LJ Hooker Stafford.

'Quirk of the postcode' sells for $1.8m

This Fortitude Valley property at 200 Arthur St, was to go to auction today but after 65 buyer groups saw it in the first week, five offers were received and a behind-the-scenes-negotiation took place resulting in the property selling prior to auction for $1.8m.

"The 'Teneriffe Tax' and 'New Farm Tax' doesn't usually apply in Fortitude Valley," McGrath New Farm's Brett Greensill said. "But this quirk of the postcode zoning still made for amazing buying at 200 Arthur St."

CoreLogic property data shows the owner paid $170,000 for the property in 1992.

"She was astonished when the deposit that was offered was more than the entire sale price she'd paid nearly 30 years ago," Mr Greensil said.

"With no car parking, an encroachment and an essential total-renovation required, it means even usually unloved Fortitude Valley is booming, just like its trendier neighbourhood suburbs."

House passes in then sells for same price five minutes later

An offer of $3m wasn't enough to secure the sale of 26 Aston St, Toowong at auction, but five minutes later the lead bidder had bought the property for the same price anyway, with Jason Adcock of Adcock Prestige saying the sellers changed their minds. Bidding started at $2.5m for this six-bedroom house on 726sq m with two buyers registering to bid.

Woman helping friends with a 'bond clean' stops to buy a home of her own first

debra.bela

A phone bidder from interstate and local bidders had the auction of 5 McPherson St, Gordon Park well in hand until the end when a woman who had only seen the three-bedroom home that day, jumped in, started bidding, and won the house.

Gail White was in her cleaning clothes and had been on her way to help her friends with a 'bond clean' with her partner Gavin when she saw the house was going to auction, took a closer look and decided to register.

Ray White auctioneer Phil Parker facilitated the drama and slammed the hammer down at $1.352m, more than $100,000 above the seller's reserve, with 13 registered bidders all up.

Ray White Wilston's Holly Bowden marketed the property for the sellers who had lived there for 20 years.
