Lachlan Mark Freund, charged with murder of Thor Morgan, has case mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court

A court hearing has revealed why a 24-year-old accused of murdering Toowoomba man Thor Morgan has had his case slowed down.

A 24-year-old man charged with the murder arising from the shooting death of 25-year-old Thor Morgan has had his case mentioned before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Lachlan Mark Freund was remanded in custody after his arrest in August, and was not required to appear in court.

Claire Graham, acting on behalf of Freund’s solicitors Phillips Crawford Lawyers, told the court on October 25 she was instructed to ask for an adjournment as the defence waits for additional briefs of evidence to be disclosed.

Ms Graham told the court additional disclosure had been mailed, but it was anticipated that there would be more to come.

Police prosecutor Anita Page understood a hard drive was sent by mail, however was unsure what else was outstanding.

Magistrate Louise Shephard asked Ms Page to ensure the prosecution knew what was outstanding and when it is anticipated that material would be disclosed, by the next court appearance.

Police allege Freund was in a stolen Ford Ranger ute that tracked Mr Morgan as he left his girlfriend’s Coonan Street home about 2.30am on March 15.

Freund is alleged to have fired several rounds from a lever-action rifle, one of which hit Mr Morgan in the head as he drove along Ruthven Street near Downlands College.

Despite the wound Mr Morgan walked back to his girlfriend’s home where an ambulance was called.

He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital where doctors located a bullet lodged in his brain.

Mr Morgan survived for several months before he died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on May 16.

Police charged Freund with murder on August 18 after they found the suspected murder weapon at the bottom of the Condamine River on July 26.

Three days after his arrest, police charged his partner Isobel Rose Higgins, 24, with being an accessory after the fact of murder.

Police allege she provided a false alibi to cover up Freund’s alleged role in the murder.

Goondiwindi woman Tina Kathleen Hazard, 36, has also been charged with murder, unlawful possession of weapons and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She remains in custody, while Higgins was granted bail.

All three have not been required to enter a plea.

Freund is held on remand, with his case to be mentioned again in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on November 16.
